This second course at championship level in the area to be developed by Jose Banus, the first being Las Brisas and was created by Robert Trent Jones. It opened in 1977 and Robert Trent Jones thought Los Naranjos was his most impressive layout.

Holes one to nine are among gentle hilly and wider fairways, while the remaining holes are much more of a challenge, being on more level ground and strewn with stunning orange trees. This is why the course was named Los Naranjos.

The course is a little lengthier than Las Brisas covering 6457 metres from the white tees, the course has tactically positioned bunkers and lakes on the fairways to keep you on your toes.

This is considered to be a very tough courses in the Costa del Sol, with the SSS rating on the white tees is 75.

The club offers such facilities as a short game area, three putting greens, a well stocked pro shop, a driving range with tees at either end and a restaurant.

The course covers 6640 yards, has par 72 and a slope level of 129. It should be noted that the course lengths have been confirmed in yards and from the yellow tees. In addition, the rating for the slope level is off the yellow tees.

Los Flamingos is forty minutes drive from Fuengirola and quarter of an hour from Puerto Banus.

The Estepona is managed with the adage ‘The friendliest course on the Costa’ and when your visit the club you will realise that this is a ‘club away from club’.

The club, created by Luis Lopez Martinez, is located at the foot of the Sierra Bermeja and has an par 72 18 hole course which adheres to the lay of the land. The greens are always immaculate and the fairways are often wide.

Holes one through to nine are some of the lengthiest in Spain, for instance the third hole at par 5 is known as ‘ the ski run’ and is 568 metres in length from the white tees.

The facilities on offer at the Estepona Golf Course are second to none and as a result, the course sees a significant number of golfers on its fairways, especially as it is reasonably priced. The course is situated only 1 kilometre to the west of Arroyo Vaquero.

The course is par 72 rated, covering 6170 yards and has a slope level of 130. It should be noted that the course lengths have been confirmed in yards and from the yellow tees. In addition, the rating for the slope level is off the yellow tees.

The Estepona is only 50 minutes in the car from Fuengirola and twenty minutes from Puerto Banus.

An exciting new course in the Costa del Sol is the Cabopino Golf Club, with a course covering 5170 metres.

The course has thirteen par 4 holes, two par 5 holes and 3 par 3 holes, with four of those holes being hindered slightly by the nearby lakes. The 3rd hole is an unusual par 4, which has a strong decline from the tee all the way to the hole.

Those with large handicaps will find that they need to use all their golf clubs to complete the course, where as those with lower handicaps will need to be a bit more reckless in order to remain within par.

The fairways and greens are all in superb form and buggies are compulsory for this course.

The course is at par 71, has a slope level of 121 and covers 5958 yards. It should be noted that the course lengths have been confirmed in yards and from the yellow tees. In addition, the rating for the slope level is off the yellow tees.

The Cabopino is about a quarter of an hour from Fuengirola and only twenty minutes from Puerto Banus.

Since it was built in 1964, the Royal Sotogrande Golf Club is thought to be amongst the best European courses, being listed in the 100 Greatest Courses in the World and has been awarded 5th best course in Europe.

The course has two of the top holes in the world, both hole seven and hole twelve, and was Robert Trent Jones’ first European course design.

The grass is Bermuda grass which was sown to ensure that the fairways remain lush and abundant and the best condition, as well as ensuring the green maintain their quality.

There is not very much rough, however, you should remain vigilant as Robert Trent Jones has purposefully positioned bunkers and water features to ensure that the course is testing for all standards of golf players.

The course covers 6461 yards, has par 72 and a slope level of 131, with a maximum handicap on the eighteen hole Championship Course for men being 24 and for women 30.

The Rio Real is a par 72, 18 hole golf course which is located in stunning surroundings with views of the mountains and the sea. The Real River wends a path through the course.

The course is considered quite difficult though the ground is mostly on a level. In order to succeed at the eleventh hole, you would need to tee your shot so that is crosses a gorge so that it reaches the fairway on the other side, then there is a stream in the way of the green.

The Rio Real was opened in 1965 and created by Javier Arana. Holes one to nine are very unyielding but the rest of the holes ease off, and there are a couple of raised tees and there are several mature trees dotted around the fairway.

The Club has recently been renovated and upgraded with new greens, replanted fairways, an improvement to the cart paths and a modernised club house and associated services.

Rio Real is thought to be one of the best three golf courses in the area and in 2002 was deemed to be the best upgraded course that year.

The course covers 129, has par 72 and a slope rating of 129. It should be noted that the course lengths have been confirmed in yards and from the yellow tees. In addition, the rating for the slope level is off the yellow tees.

Mijas Golf has two of the most frequented courses in the whole of the Costa del Sol area, which proves they are hitting the right notes. Each of the courses, which both have 18 holes were created in the 1970s by Robert Trent Jones

Golf lovers will find that the course is ideal with its hilly and rolling fairways and the feeling of openness at both courses. The fairways at Los Olivos have olive trees aplenty, while the fairways at Los Lagos are edged with pungent jacaranda and araucalia pines.

Los Lagos, named after the seven thirsty water hazards, is the lengthier of the courses covering 6404 metres, with greens that have width with varied ground dotted with bunkers. Los Olivos covers 6009 metres and is considered to be much more testing.

Los Lagos covers 6607 yards, has par 71 and a slope level of 111, while Los Olivos covers 6160 yards and a slope level of 113. It should be noted that the course lengths have been confirmed in yards and from the yellow tees. In addition, the rating for the slope level is off the yellow tees.

The par 71, 18 hole Miraflores Golf Club and has been open since 1990. The course was designed by Folco Nardi, the course has proved itself to be well liked, well used. It covers 5113 metres and meanders over the rolling Sierra Mijas hills.

The greens and fairways are meticulously kept and look marvellous all year round. The water comes from three water holes which have been added to the course and that appear at four of the holes.

There is a golfing academy, which has improved year after year, and which offers lessons with tutors who can speak a number of languages. They are able to teach golfers with very little experience to those who just need a brush up on their technique.

In addition Miraflores offers a split level driving range which is flood lit and purpose built along with video assessment afterwards, a well stocked pro shop and a vending machine refreshment area.

Well known in the golfing arena, the Finca Cortesin is located in an upmarket area of Andalucia and right next to the Mediterranean.

The course covers nearly 7000 meters from the back tees and thought to be one of the lengthiest European courses. One of the many appealing characteristics of the course is that the lay of the land remains how nature intended.
The course was created by Cabell Robinson, while the landscape was created by internationally known Herald Huggan. Who between them have been able to create a golf course that remains true to nature of the land and keeps a balance with the indigenous wildlife of Andalucia and the perfectly presented greens and fairways.

Finca Cortesin Golf Resort comprises of a golf course, a sports clubs a spa, excellent villas, and a hotel considered amongst the rated in Europe.

The whole resort endeavours to maintain an eco-friendly approach and the local plant life is treated with the utmost care. To evidence this, Finca Corsetin is considered to be amongst the most environmentally friendly in the area.

The course has amazing views for the mountains on one side and the sea on the other and has a variety of tees situated at all holes, which assist in assessing how challenging the course is.

The course is par 72 and covers approximately 6500 metres.

Finca Cortesin Golf Course is 1 hour in the car from Fuengirola and just over half and hour in the car from Puerto Banus.
